Flamingos
Caribbean Flamingos are one of five species of Flamingo found around the world. Flamingos are easily identifiable with their pink feathers, long necks and legs, and a boomerang shaped beak. They are highly social birds which inhabit the shallow water ways of the Galapagos Islands, Southern Caribbean, Yucatan Peninsula, and Northern Caribbean. They are filter feeders that like small crustaceans, insects, mollusks, worms and seeds. Flamingos can be seen here in South Florida during the winter months.
Great Horned Owl
Great-horned Owl is a prolific hunter able to take down an extremely wide range of prey items (over 250 have been identified.) They have feathers around their eyes that are called facial discs which help focus and amplify sounds to their ears. These ears are not symmetrical which allows them to triangulate prey sounds and hunt even in low light situations. They also have enormous eyes, so big that they do not have room for the optical muscles needed to move them. They compensate by having an extremely flexible neck which can rotate up to 270 degrees.
Bald Eagle
The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a bird of prey found in North America. It is the national bird and symbol of the United States of America. This sea eagle has two known sub-species and forms a species pair with the White-tailed Eagle. Its range includes most of Canada and Alaska, all of the contiguous United States, and northern Mexico. It is found near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply and old-growth trees for nesting.
Lion
The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the four big cats in the genus Panthera, and a member of the family Felidae. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with an endangered remnant population in Gir Forest National Park in India, having disappeared from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene, about 10,000 years ago, the lion was the most widespread large land mammal after humans. They were found in most of Africa, across Eurasia from western Europe to India, and in the Americas from the Yukon to Peru.
Giraffe
The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest of all extant land-living animal species, and the largest ruminant. Its scientific name, which is similar to its archaic English name of camelopard, refers to its irregular patches of color on a light background, which bear a token resemblance to a leopard's spots, and its face, which is similar to that of a camel. The average mass for an adult male giraffe is 1,200 kilograms (2,600 lb) while the average mass for an adult female is 830 kilograms (1,800 lb).[3][4] It is approximately 4.3 metres (14 ft) to 5.2 metres (17 ft) tall, although the tallest male recorded stood almost 6 metres (20 ft).
White Tiger
White Tigers are usually Bengal or Siberian tigers with a genetic condition that causes a very pale appearance. They have pink noses, white to cream colored fur, and black, grey, or brown stripes. They live in the dense forests and lush grasslands of Asia. In this habitat, they are known to eat water buffalo, goat, deer, and wild boar. Compared to orange tigers without the white gene, white tigers tend to be larger both at birth and as fully grown adults. In spite of their unusual coloration, their size can be advantageous in the wild. Heterozygous orange tigers also tend to be larger than other orange tigers. Kailash Sankhala, the director of the New Delhi Zoo in the 1960s, said "one of the functions of the white gene may have been to keep a size gene in the population, in case it's ever needed."[
American Alligator
American Alligators are found throughout the southeastern United States. With its broad snout, the alligator preys on small mammals, birds, fish, and other reptiles. Males can grow to reach lengths of 12 to 13 feet while females are smaller, only growing to be 7 to 8 feet in length. An alligator's mouth is equipped with 80 teeth and up to 3,000 pounds-per-square-inch of biting pressure. The American alligator has a large, slightly rounded body, with thick limbs, a broad head, and a very powerful tail. Adult Alligators generally have a green, olive, brown, gray or nearly black color with a creamy white underside. Algae-laden waters produce greener skin, while tannic acid from overhanging trees can often produce darker skin.
Fresh Water Turtles
Turtles are reptiles, characterised by a special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs that acts as a shield. Although many turtles spend large amounts of their lives underwater, all turtles and tortoises breathe air, and must surface at regular intervals to refill their lungs. They can also spend much of their lives on dry land. Turtles lay eggs, like other reptiles, which are slightly soft and leathery. Like other reptiles, turtles are ectotherms—their internal temperature varies according to the ambient environment, commonly called cold-blooded. However, leatherback sea turtles have noticeably higher body temperature than surrounding water because of their high metabolic rate.
Chamelion
Chameleons (family Chamaeleonidae) are a distinctive and highly specialized clade of lizards. They are distinguished by their parrot-like zygodactylous feet, their separately mobile and stereoscopic eyes, their very long, highly modified, and rapidly extrudable tongues, their swaying gait, the possession by many of a prehensile tail, crests or horns on their distinctively shaped heads, and the ability of some to change color. Chameleons vary greatly in size and body structure, with maximum total length varying from 3.3 cm (1.3 in.) in Brookesia minima (one of the world's smallest reptiles) to 68.5 cm (27 in.) in the male Furcifer oustaleti.[3] Many have head or facial ornamentation, such as nasal protrusions, or horn-like projections in the case of Chamaeleo jacksonii, or large crests on top of their head, like Chamaeleo calyptratus.
